This is a fictional news report set in the year 2032.
This just in: Flooding of the Gulf of Mexico has led millions of people out of their homes and into the fight for their lives, and the culprit appears to be global warming. Water levels have raised over levee's in almost every coastal state, making the president declare a state of emergency in the southern region. Our resident reporter in Florida has reported to us that the people of the areas have reported being in complete aw and shock at the events, saying that the Planet appears mad and furious with everyone. The flooding was a surprise to almost all, and seemingly unprovoked, although it is known that sea levels have drastically risen over the years. Almost every home is without power, if not disconnected from it's foundation. Over the last 40 years heating of the planet has caused devastating natural disasters all over the world. From the collapsing of ice shelves in the arctic regions, to landslides in Seattle, to our most recent disaster, and how much more of this do we really need to see?
Most agree that intense warming and rising water levels are caused by greenhouse gases being released at alarming rates into the atmosphere and being trapped up there, keeping the earth too warm and throwing it's balance off. Over the last 100 years our sea levels have risen about six inches, as stated above, and the planets temperature has risen a whole degree Fahrenheit. The consensus decision that many of us are coming to is that we must act now to help save the earth. How many more disasters need to happen before we take drastic measures? The warming has failed to be slowed in the past due to minimal effort and little to no action taken on posed solutions. In the past, we have tried to cut carbon emissions, introduce alternative sources of energy, but all have failed, or been phased out. The efforts of past political leaders have also been for naught or just have not worked to what was envisioned. Today, there are many different opinions on global warming, and some debate if it even exists or if it is accelerated by the human race but the scientific community has agreed on one thing: if we continue down this path, we will likely see increased heating by another 2.0-11.5 degrees Fahrenheit in this century alone. And their message to all is that in order to be part of the solution, we all need to forget our old ways, and begin to strive for a solution. Although we are unable to get a news feed out to an affected area, we will try to keep you updated and informed on the event in hand.
